Task 4

   For task 4 Silvana and I had to research something old or new related to New Zealand culture.So we decided to choose the new Auckland Art Gallery. Firstly, we decided to research some information about the old Auckland Art Gallery. We also interested the New Auckland Art Gallery.What does the old one look like and who designed this building?

The Main Gallery,designed by Melbourne architects John Harry Grainger and Charles A.D'Ebro in 'French Chatenau style' opened in 1887 as Auckland City's Free Public Library and Municipal Offices. The part of the building devoted to the Gallery opened a year later on 17 February 1888.

After we read some information about the old Auckland Art Gallery.We started to research something about the new Auckland Art Gallery,because we wanted to visit this one.

The new Auckland Art Gallery was started in 2008 and finished 2011.This video will show how do they build the new Auckland Art Gallery during these 3 years ?

This building has won an international award never before given to a New Zealand building.The international award for Architectural Excellence form The Royal Institute of British Architects.Design architect: Richard Francis-jones.

Twelve buildings a year are given the honour,which distinguishes the world's most imaginative,dramatic and eco-friendly buildings. Director Chris Saines said that the aim was to develop a world class gallery.

Since then the gallery has housed successful exhibition such as Degas to Dali, which has attracted 99,000 visitors. They are collection of more than 15,000 artworks.

After we researched some information about the Auckland Art Gallery, we decided to go to there.

 Silvana and I were out side the Auckland Art Gallery.

They are open daily from 10am-5pm,Except on Christmas Day.

The Auckland Art Gallery has 5 levels

which are Lower ground, Main ground(main entrance),

Mezzanine,Level 1 and Level 2.

When we went to the gallery,we had no idea what were we going to do? Because they had too much work. We didn't know how to start? So we decided to go to the cafe to have lunch first. It is inside the gallery.The food was very delicious.

We took the video about the food. When we did this task, we had lots of fun.

Actually, this video we was just practice. After we finished the video, we watched it again and it was very funny.So we decided we were not going to make the other one, this video was very natural .

After we took this video, we ate these food . Then I knew the salad made with row finish, and the dish made with salmon,egg,and haddock. They were very delicious.

After we finished some research, we watched again and again.The video made us laughing .

Then we went to the Main ground.They have a shop on the left.

                       

                                  

                                      And they also have some New Zealand collections.

After we visited the ground, we went to the mezzanine ,there was too much Victorian art.This is my favorite part . 

Victorian art from the romantic to the gothic, explore the 19th century through the eyes of the artists who helped shape the Victorian age.

          Silvana helped me to take the video with the lady, who working in the gallery.

This video about we were in the learning center, but I didn't know anything about there. So we didn't say anything in this video.SORRY

After I went home, I did more research about the learning center.Then I found a video to introduction it which is start at 1:52 and ends at 2:40.

Then we went to level 1

contemporary art.

We found something different about the level 1 .Which is a work, was made by Paul McCarthy.The video's name is Family Tyranny/Cultural Soup.

This work made me very crazy and I felt really  uncomfortable. I was very curious Why  the work shows in Auckland Art Gallery. So I decided to do some researches about the artist .

This is Paul McCarthy is a contemporary artist who was born in 1945 in Salt Lake City,in the US.He is a controversial artist. He constantly pushing the boundaries.

After I finished my presentation. I noticed I have done lots of mistakes. Because I did this presentation in front of my teacher and my classmates. I was really nervous.The last question I gave the wrong answer. When I watched back again, I noticed my classmate asked me about 'how did you explain the Auckland Art Gallery with out guide. It was very hard part.In that time.'I thought that she ask me about how could you explain the art work with out guide in front of video.Because this was very difficult part. When I did this task. The right answer is I took the video and photos back. Then I researched the artist name and these work on the internet.For example, the video which I had researched around three hours to find the artist information. It was very hard to explain with out guide. I had to think lots of ideas to research these information. But I really enjoy when I was doing this task. I think I did very good job.Thanks.

Feeling about task 4


 Task 4 was interesting for me and  I had to research some information about something old or new related to New Zealand's culture. This task was very difficult to think about the topic. Fortunately, our teacher gave us some topics on the ESCP website. These  ideas were easy to help me to choose which topic was better to research information. Actually, I researched all topics on the internet, which Frances put on the ESCP website. When I researched some information about Auckland Art Gallery , I got some ideas from the gallery website. Firstly, I found out some information about the old Auckland Art Gallery, and the new Auckland Art Gallery. When I researched about the new gallery ,I found very important information which was an Auckland Art Gallery floor map.It helped me to create the idea to do this task. The map showed lots of details about the gallery ,which is many levels in the building and has many parts in the gallery. My aim to go to Auckland Art Gallery was to take photos and to research some information.Then I could finish the task very soon.

 So after I did some research about the  Auckland Art Gallery, I found my friend who was doing the same topic in the other class. So we decided to go to Auckland Art Gallery together. We went to the gallery one afternoon. Actually ,we enjoyed this afternoon very much,because we had lots of fun in there. Before going to the gallery we made a plan. Firstly, we decided to find a guide to introduce some art work and help us to take a video. Secondly ,we took some photos for each part and wrote down some information . Then we could finish this task research very soon and easily. But when we arrived there, we were shocked, because we couldn't hire a guide. All the guides finished at 1:30. We were late around 30 minutes. The other thing is there was too march art work there and the staff hadn't given enough information about them. Lots of work just let you know the artist's name. So we decided to go to the cafe to have lunch first. The food was very delicious . Then we took the first video in the cafe. This was a very good start. During this video,we had a lot of fun in there , and we found more confidence. After we finished lunch, we visited the gallery and we took lots of photos and videos in there. Actually we were very lucky, because the gallery was different from the museum. Sometimes, they don't  have guides, but they always have a member of staff in each part of the gallery. If you have some problems ,you could ask them to explain. We were both lucky to find  different members of staff to explain different art work. Not only were staffs very nice to us, but they also allowed us to take videos with them. During this task we had a very great time. I really enjoyed myself.

  In this task I had some problems,when I spoke in front of video. In these videos I  hadn't  practiced , so sometimes I forgot to use correct tenses and grammar. For example, I said 'we doing task 4' instead of 'we are doing task 4' and 'we make a plan' instead of 'we will make a plan.

I really like the ESCP course. During this task , I found more confidence. When I did my task 1, I was nervous in front of video, but now I am not shy anymore. Actually I like to  take  videos. it is very easy to the evidence , because when you show lots of evidence on the video ,you don't need to find more information and write too much on your blog. I am very lazy. Anyway I used my brain every day. I had to think about the  information, idea, and design. For example my Task 4,I used yellow words ,because I noticed the Auckland Art Gallery Main colours which are yellow and white. 

I really enjoy this course, and I am going to change my future plan. I decided to spend another half year to studying Diploma in English level 2. All these course are so cool. I am very glad to trusted Frances who is my teacher. Before this course I was very nervous,but Frances said' I promise ,you will enjoy ESCP'. She promise twice. Yes she did it. I am really enjoy and thanks Frances.
