Task 3

For task 3 I had to research a religion or spiritual belief that was different from my own.

First I had a chat with my friend who's a muslim.

I am really interested in Islam, which comes from an Arabic root word meaning"submission" .I wanted to research some information about Islam, because they have a very long history that starts around A.D. 610.

This link will show a time line of the history of Islam.

http://www.religionfacts.com/islam/timeline.htm

This is a Mosque website which is in Auckland.

http://www.masjideumar.co.nz/

After I read this website, I decided to go to this mosque.

This is a video which I was outside the mosque.

This is a chair that
give to the mosque leader to sit
                               when they have to speech.

There have some books on Islam .When the people come to mosque, they can choose these books to read.

This brand have some sentences, the people have to read after wudhu.

This place is used
                              to pray by Islam.

This video which I was inside the mosque.

Then I researched some important information about Islam.

They have six basic beliefs .

1. Belief in God, the one and only one worthy of all worship.

2. Belief in the Angels.

3. Belief in the book(al-Quran/ Koran)(sent by God).

4. Belief in all the Prophets and Messenger(sent by God).

5. Belief in the Day of Judgment(Qiyamah) and in the Resurrection.

6. Belief in Fate(Qadar)

This is a book about al-Quran/ Koran

Islaim has lots of rules

The Muslim concept of  worship is very broad.
Muslims consider everything they do in life to be an act of worship,if it is done according to Allah's guidance. There are also five formal acts of worship which help strengthen a Muslim's faith and obedience. They are often called the"FIive Pillars of Islam."

1 Testimony of faith(Kalima)

a) To reject all the false god.
b) To accept Allah as the only sole creator of everything
c) To Mohammad as the messenger of Allah

2 Prayer(Salat)

5 times a day

This video will show you Islam people how to pray

3 Almsgiving(Zakat)

Muslims who have wealth remaining over the year, after paying for their own basic needs, must pay a certain percentage to help others.
The amount of money paid in Zakat depends on the amount and type of wealth one possesses, but is usually considered to be a minimum of 2.5% of a person's"extra"wealth.

4 Fasting(Sawm)
Muslims are required to fast during Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar.
During the 29/30 days of Ramadan all adult Muslims must give up the following things during the hours of daylight:
  • Food or drink of any sort
  • Smoking,including passive smoking
  • Sexual activity
5 Pilgrimage(hajj)

Hajj activities take place during six days(8th-13th)of the Islamic lunar month of Dhul-Hijjah.

These pictures about the Hajj.

They are also have some Islamic rules for men, this is a link

And the other rules for women

Islam people eat vegetable , and Halal Food.

What is Halal ?

In Arabic, the word halal means permitted or lawful. Halal foods are foods that are allowed under Islamic dietary guidelines. According to these guidelines gathered from the Qu'ran,Muslim follower cannot consume the following:

  • Pork or pork by products
  • animals that were dead prior to slaughtering
  • animals not slaughtered properly or not slaughtered in the name of Allah
  • blood and blood by products

 Halal Food .

Here is my video presentation that I did to a group of  classmates

summary

In this research, I am really interesting the fast because they don't allowed eat, drink. then I found some information about the fast.  Fast start Ramadan which is the ninth month of the lunar calendar and the holiest period of the Islamic year. Secondly fast means to control yourself. First, Muslim people believe when they doing fast they will close to the god. Second, fasting nurtures brotherhood and sisterhood. Third Through fasting Muslims learn to be patient and to endure hunger and thirst.they also help people understand the sufferings of the poor people in our world.

Feeling about Task 3

Task 3 was interesting for me,but I had some problems finding information and I didn't know how to choose the information about Islam .

I am really interested in Islam, so I had a chat with my friend Kuffa who is a Muslim. Then I started my research on the Internet. When I started I felt It was quite hard . Actually I found some articles on Muslim but these articles were very long and really hard to understand, especially the Muslim’s history which was so difficult to read. I had no idea what I was going to do, and I was a little nervous, so I stared at the computer screen for around 15 minutes .Fortunately decided that I was not going to try to read these articles. I asked important questions on Google. For example: What’s the Muslim belief? It was a very good idea because I really found some useful information that they have six basic beliefs and used the idea to find some other important information,so I could build this task very quickly.

When I did the research I found a mosque which is the near my house. Then I went to the mosque one day’s afternoon. This was a very important experience for me,and this story became a little  complicated. Because I went to there alone and I had to think some idea about how to take a video back. If no one allowed me to take a video what could I do? The truth was when I arrived there was nobody there. So I decided to take a video outside the mosque by myself. When I finished the video a man who is a Muslim came to the mosque then he saw me and talked to me. I said ‘I am a student from Unitec. I am doing my task about the religion of Islam.’ The man was very nice to me.He said ‘the mosque is used to pray by men. This is man side, they have the other mosque for women to pray.Actually you went to the wrong side and we don’t usually allow women to go to the man’s mosque but for you it is OK. because you are not Islam and you are coming here to learn.’ So he allowed me go to inside the mosque and he told me lots of information about Islam. He also allowed me take a video inside the mosque so I was very lucky at that moment. After this video we went to the second floor which was where  people to pray. In this place the young man showed me how to pray. Suddenly I had an idea,  so I asked him to teach me to pray and take a video of me . He said it was OK. Then he helped me video my pray. When we had almost finished, an old man came. He was very unhappy. After we finished the video he argued with the young man who helped me to take the video. A Few minutes later I was sent out.

This experience is very important to me.Because I know that I ,sometimes I push myself very hard.I always try do my best. Each task I want to show something different on my blog and I want to create some new ideas. So this time I asked the young man to teach me how to pray and to help me to take a video.I am not going to find some excuse. Actually this was my fault.I knew this was not right, and I shouldn’t asked the young man to help me. He had a really good heart, but I still wanted to try at that moment. I am very sorry about this and I am not going to put this video on my blog, so I have already deleted it. In this task I  have learned something. If I am going to somewhere I don’t know, I should do enough research and follow the rules , never try to break them. Sometimes I have to double check the rules. This was a very good experience.
